May's Drink
Cincoro Reposado gains its remarkable aromas and taste from a very unique aging regimen. Our barrels are imported from Kentucky, and were first used to age Bourbon. By aging Cincoro Blanco in these barrels, we highlight the smoothness of our Blanco, complimented by wood notes from aging 8-10 months in an underground cellar, considerably longer than the minimum 2 months required for Reposado. On the nose Cincoro Reposado has amazing notes of vanilla, baking spices, and toasted oak. On the palate, sweet cooked agave, caramel, white chocolate.

Reposado Tequila

Editor's Notes
2020 has continued to be a pretty rough year and there hasn't been much to celebrate. I'm optimistic though that May will be the month things turn around. Even if we remain in this quarantined state, there is one day for certain that I know millions of Americans will still celebrate. That day is the beloved Cinco de Mayo! It may be to just get a break from our reality; but whatever the reason people will be eating tacos (on a Tuesday at that), throwing back Coronas (la cerveza mas fina), and taking plenty shots with Tequila. So naturally I was going to choose a tequila as the brew of the month but not just any, this one is special. For those that have been watching ESPN's docuseries The Last Dance, you may have noticed Michael Jordan sipping liquor throughout his interviews. Well you guessed it, Cincoro Tequila is owned by his Airness; along with four other NBA owners to include Jeanie Buss (#LakerGang). I know that it's 5:00 somewhere so without further ado let's pop this bottle.

Cincoro bottles are nothing short of amazing and takes elegance to another level. Even the box is luxurious; all black with subdued matte black agave plants and the inside of the box is lined with gold. The sleek bottle itself was designed by Jordan and Nike's VP of Innovative Special projects Mark Smith. It's in the shape of an agave leaf and has five sides to represent the five founding partners. The bottom tilts exactly 23° and so does the cork; an obvious nod to MJ. Upon opening I didn't smell the traditional agave like with most tequilas. Instead I picked up a strong alcohol smell that I really didn't care for. The color is medium gold both in the bottle and when poured in a glass. The taste definitely made up for the strong alcohol smell. This tequila is really really smooth. I picked up notes of vanilla and oak. I later found out I likely picked up the oak because the Reposado is aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels (my fave if you guys haven't noticed by now). You definitely feel the warmth in your chest but you won't feel the burn going down your throat. The aftertaste is quite different from other tequilas. I'm not sure if it's because of the caramel, vanilla, or white chocolate; but whatever the reason is I like it.

Cincoro is a combination of the spanish words for five and gold. Gold has always been associated with the rich so I expected this tequila to be quite luxurious. CincoroTequilas are that without a doubt and I can see why they won quite a bit of awards since coming on the scene in 2019. Now here goes the sticker shock. The Blanco is $70, Reposado $90, Anejo $130, and Extra Anejo $1600. No I did not accidentally add an extra zero by mistake. One comma six zero zero for the extra anejo. Probably due to a combination of it being aged for 40 months and that sleek black bottle being made from real crystal and gold. Regardless, I'm going to have to let that one sit on the store shelf. Sorry Mike. If any of you give that one a try definitely let us know how you liked it either here on the website or on the Bros, Books, & Brews FB page. Although I can't get over the smell, overall this was a pretty good bottle of tequila and I'll likely purchase it again. That's all she wrote for this month fellas but Stay Home (even if your state was one that opened too soon) and Stay Safe. Enjoy Cincoro Reposado Tequila and always remember to Drink Responsibly!
